11) Community Service & Mental Health Service Providers in the Cariboo-  take the survey
The Cariboo Regional District was successful in obtaining a grant to complete an analysis of mental health services currently offered within the South & Central Cariboo region and identify any gaps in these services. This survey is one of several research techniques being used to collect data for this project. This e-survey tool allows for anonymity for respondents. All identifying factors that may arise from the text responses will be removed from the final report to protect anonymity.

Note: This email has been sent to typically one email address per agency that provides services that benefit people with mental health issues in the Williams Lake and 100 Mile House area.
Please do share this email and link within your office email database so that all staff that work with or interact with these clients can weigh in.

Please take time to answer the text responses with as much detail as possible. Results from this study have the potential to lead to the application for further funding to address some of the issues that arise so your input is important.

Follow the link below:

Input will be gathered until September 30th 2014

If you have any questions about this survey or about the project, please contact researcher Kimberly Vance-Lundsbye at 250-706-3143 or cariboomentalhealthsurvey@gmail.com

Thank you in advance for your input and support of mental health services in the Cariboo.

First-time author and Williams Lake Indian Band member Willie Sellars captures a sense of family values, and articulates the importance of storytelling, community living and coming of age in one of BC's oldest cultures. The contemporary, colourful and dynamic illustrations of debut artist Kevin Easthope truly bring the characters to life.

The book launch will feature storytelling by Willie Sellars and Kevin Easthope, and books will be available for purchase and signing. This is a free event. All are welcome to attend.

13) Public Information sessions for Proposed  Pool Renovations & Upgrades (Williams Lake, B.C.
The Cariboo Regional District and the City of Williams Lake will be hosting a series of
Open House sessions regarding the upcoming Sam Ketcham Pool Renovations and Upgrades Referendum.

The sessions will take place as follows:

Thursday, Sept. 11 @ Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex' Gibraltar Room from 4-7 pm
Saturday, Sept. 13 @ 150 Mile House Community Hall from 1-2 pm
Saturday, Sept. 13 @ Area E Town Hall Open House at the Williams Lake Sportsmen’s Club from 1-3 pm
Monday, Sept. 15 @ Area D Town Hall Open House at the Wildwood Volunteer Fire Hall from 5-7 pm
Wednesday,  Sept. 17@ City of Williams Lake Town Hall Open House at the CRD Boardroom from 5-7 pm

There are also static displays at the CMRC, City Hall and CRD office. The referendum, which will be held on Nov. 15, 2014, will ask voters if they approve borrowing  up to $10  million over 20 years. The remainder of the cost of the approximately $11.3 million project will need to be  made up from grants, fundraising, and capital reserves. Proceeding with the project would result in a taxation increase for Central Cariboo Recreation services of approximately $40/$100,000 of residential assessment, including operating costs of the expanded facility

The project includes three main components: increasing the shallow water leisure pools from the existing  540 to 3,700 square feet, replacing the main lap pool tank, and adding multi-purpose fitness centre space  to a second floor above the change rooms. Other notable improvements include a larger family change  room and replacement of mechanical and electrical systems. A redesign and resurfacing of the parking lot  will also be planned in conjunction with the proposed pool upgrades. A Facebook page dedicated to helping provide information to residents and an opportunity for residents to ask questions can be found at facebook.com/SamKetchamPool. A Twitter feed can also be found at @SKPReferendum.

Be sure to check these sites often as we will continue to provide regular updated  information about the proposed renovations and the referendum process as it becomes available. For further information or to view the Cariboo Memorial Complex Pool Feasibility Study visit us online  at cariboord.bc.ca or williamslake.ca.

14) Williams Lake Terry Fox Run Sept. 14
"Inspired by a Dream, Grounded In Tradition, Volunteer-Driven" No entry fee. No minimum donation.

Terry’s Marathon of Hope took place in 1980 with the simple objective of informing Canadians of the importance of finding a cure for cancer. With fierce determination, he ran an average of 42 kms (26 miles) every day for 143 days. Terry was forced to stop his run on September 1, 1980 when the cancer spread to his lungs.

The first Terry Fox Run in 1981 attracted 300,000 participants across Canada. In 2013 the runs across Canada raised 2.25 million dollars. Terry Fox Foundation is a leader among charitable causes in terms of low administration and fund- raising expenditures- 85 cents of every dollar raised goes to cancer research!

The Terry Fox Foundation is one of the largest non-governmental funders of cancer research in the country. Your donations have helped to fund 1, 180 research projects which have included research in lung, ovarian, colorectal, pancreatic, oral, liver and many more types of cancer.
